Military Appreciation Month Travel Deals

The Senate first passed a resolution in 1999 designating National Military Appreciation Month, which encourages U.S. citizens every May to observe the month in a symbol of unity, and honor the current and former members of the armed forces, including those who have died in the pursuit of freedom and peace.  – from www.military.com

Here are some great deals out there that you can take advantage of this month!

Carnival Cruise Lines – Get a special military rate which can save you hundreds and also a credit of $10 per person up to a maximum of $20 per stateroom on 3-4 day sailings and $25 per person up to a maximum of $50 per stateroom on 5 day and greater sailings.  Book by the end of May good for cruises until the end of the year.

Armed Forces Recreation Centers – All four are a good deal, but they have some specials going on that you may want to check out including specials for families who lost someone in the service and opening up to all honorably discharged vets during Jan. and Sep.

National Parks – I have written about this before so it is not new for NMAM, but it is a great time to get a free pass to all parks for the whole year.  Just show your CAC card to get the pass which you can put two names on.

Visit Myrtle Beach – OK, I bet you didn’t expect to see this on here, but apparently they have activities for the whole month for a celebration called Military Appreciation Days throughout the month of March.  Montel Williams is even the Grand Marshall for the parade!  They have a traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall this week (14-18 May) which sounds really interesting.

So there you are.  I hope you can take advantage of one or more of these specials – you’ve earned it!

  1. Not specifically a Military Appreciation Month deal but an OUTSTANDING ongoing bargain for military folks. In Orlando, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Orlando at SeaWorld has had a Salute To Heroes rate for several years. It’s a great deal, I just saw $74 for June. I’ve taken advantage of it a few times in the past few years ($59, $69), one time even upgraded to a suite at that rate, have watched the fireworks at Seaworld from my 10th floor window a couple of times. Nice hotel, nice grounds, nice buffet breakfast (free for certain elites), short drive to the airport. Thank you to Doubletree Orlando at Seaworld!

(SALUTE TO HEROES – LEISURE RATE ONLY – TAX EXEMPT DOES NOT APPLY – GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT ISSUED ID IS REQUIRED; RATE IS APPLICABLE TO ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY,RESERVISTS,RETIRED MILITARY AND ALL POLICE, FIRE, AND SHERRIFF PERSONNEL.)
